Am I investing in others and leading a life worth imitating?

Discipleship is reproducing. It invests in and equips others so we can be disciples who make disciples.

2 Timothy 2:1-2: “You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”

Discipleship requires passing the baton! All true discipleship includes investing in other believers and helping to equip them on their growth journey. As each of us invests in others, we create a multiplying effect - we become disciples who are making disciples (who then make disciples!).

Jesus ministered to the multitudes, yet his intentional plan for reaching the whole world was to focus on a few. At the time of his ascension, he left only 120 disciples behind! Yet that small band of disciples would go on to transform the Roman Empire in just 300 years. He started small and went deep because he knew that the chain reaction of discipleship would multiply into all the nations.

When we invest in others, we can expect to grow ourselves while also participating in the mission Jesus Himself started.

As we invest in others, we go from:
  • Needing a spiritual mentor to being a spiritual mentor
  • Imitating others to being a spiritual role model for others to imitate
  • Relying on others to spiritually feed us to helping spiritually feed others
