SERMON NOTES

Week 1: To Your Advantage

Who the Holy Spirit is:

God (Genesis 1:2; Romans 8:11; Acts 5:3)
A person, not a force (Ephesians 4:30; 1 Corinthians 12:11)
The Author of Scripture (2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16)

What the Holy Spirit does:

Before Salvation:
Convicts (John 16:8-9)

At Salvation:
Regenerates (Titus 3:5; John 3:3-7)
Baptizes (1 Corinthians 12:13)
Seals (Ephesians 1:13-14)
Indwells (1 Corinthians 6:19)
Gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4-11)

After Salvation:
Illuminates (1 Corinthians 2:12)
Leads (Romans 8:14; Galatians 5:18)
Fills (Ephesians 5:18)
Assures (Romans 8:16; 1 John 3:24)
Prays (Romans 8:26)
Sanctifies (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18; Galatians 3:3)
Week 2: His Presence

We must see everything around us in light of God's presence within us.

Awareness of His presence looks like:
Constantly talk with Him
Sensitive to sin
Experience His guidance
Hungry for His Word
Never alone
Peace in storms
Joy in trials
Hope in times of despair
Eager to trust Him

Week 3: The Flesh

We cannot win the battle with the flesh unless we set our minds on things of the Spirit.

Practical Steps:

Put a cross in a visible place as reminder that Christ died for me, and I died with Him.

Meditate on and memorize Romans 6:6-7.

Practice the Gospel Waltz (click here for more info):
Repent
Remember
Surrender
