PREMARITAL MENTORING FAQS

WHEN SHOULD I START THE PREMARITAL MENTORING PROCESS?
As soon as you want to know if marriage is right for you and your partner. For engaged couples, it’s best to register at least 6 months or more before the wedding.

IS THERE ANY COST FOR THIS MENTORING?
A $75 fee (payable online) covers the cost of your premarital assessment, workbooks, and devotional.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?
The mentoring program is designed to take 12 weeks of time, not including the initial registration process with some preliminary questionnaires that are used to help us learn about you and match you with one of our mentor couples.

WHAT IS THE MENTORING LIKE? WHAT DO I GAIN FROM THE PROGRAM?
We get to know a little about you from a brief written personal testimony, followed by a premarital questionnaire called the FOCCUS Inventory. The ministry then connects you with a mentor couple. The mentors will meet with you for at least 6 sessions, usually two weeks apart. They will help you identify areas of strength and growth in your current relationship, while you work through the Preparing for Marriage workbook, published by FamilyLife Ministries.

Our mentors, while not professional counselors, are experienced and trained to create a safe environment and to encourage you to discuss difficult issues with your partner. They help you cut through the fog of premarital bliss to examine important issues, creating a Biblical foundation for your marriage.

WHAT IS THE FOCCUS PRE-MARRIAGE INVENTORY?
The FOCCUS Inventory is a simple online survey, taken individually, with about 150 agree/disagree questions to identify your views on everything from extended family to financial issues. This survey is a proven, premarital counseling tool to help identify areas that couples need to discuss. The survey is completely confidential and the answers will only be seen by your mentor couple.
