Declaration of Dependence

Happy Birthday, America! This week, our country celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the revolution that resulted in our nation as we know it today. There is much to celebrate about the instincts that led to that moment, including the self-reliance that the Founders felt was necessary to throw off the yoke of tyranny. However, when we look at our spiritual lives, independence is almost never the path the Scriptures call us toward. In fact, in our passage for this Sunday, Paul declares his absolute dependence on Christ in order to have true contentment in any situation. Come this Sunday as we find out the secret of contentment (and generosity).
