Kenya is a nation with a strong Christian presence and a vibrant church community, but many communities continue to face challenges related to poverty, education, and access to resources. The Kenyan church is actively engaged in evangelism, discipleship, and community development, with many local believers passionate about seeing their communities transformed by the gospel. Through our partnership with Gideon and Joy Banda, Bay Area teams have the opportunity to serve alongside Kenyan Christians who are faithfully sharing Jesus and caring for their communities.

The population of Kenya is around 57,389,000 people, and the primary language spoken is English. The primary religion is Christianity with about 80% of the population reported as professing Christians, and of the 102 people groups there are 25 that are unreached.

ABOUT:
Gideon and Joy Banda are the founders and directors of Renewal Project Africa Trust, a charitable foundation that exists to establish and mobilize disciples and churches for holistic Gospel impact in their communities. Founded in August 2020, Renewal Project Africa plants churches in unreached and unengaged People Groups, mobilizes existing churches for mission, and impacts communities where they work in the areas of health, education, water and business as mission.

The Bandas have a deep passion to shepherd church planters' families and work for their flourishing. They have three boys: Jotham, Joshua and Jason. The Bandas live in Mombasa Kenya, a beautiful coastal city in East Africa. They call their home the ‘Kingdom House’ to reflect their passion to surrender all they are to Jesus. Joy and Gideon see the Bay Area Community Church family as their American home.

MISSION:
 Gideon and Joy Banda serve unreached people groups in and around Mombasa, Kenya through Gideon's role with East-West Ministries. They are discipling leaders, sharing the gospel and helping plant churches all around Mombasa.

Serve alongside our global partners, Gideon and Joy Banda, as we encourage local believers and share the love of Jesus in Kenya.

Students can expect to participate in service projects requiring physical labor, teach and lead Vacation Bible School activities, share personal testimonies, and participate in opportunities such as prayer walking, evangelism, and community outreach. This team is designed to help students step out in faith, grow in their understanding of God’s mission, and experience the joy of serving alongside passionate believers.

This team is designed specifically for Bay Area Student Ministry students and approved trip leaders. Because the experience is intentionally structured around student discipleship, participation is limited to students and team leaders. Families or adults looking to serve together are encouraged to consider one of our other family-friendly mission opportunities. Due to limited space, we will not be able to accept everyone for this team.

Team members can expect to participate in practical service projects, teach and lead Vacation Bible School, share personal testimonies, and encourage local communities through prayer and outreach. Additional opportunities may include prayer walking and sharing the hope of Jesus with men and women in the community.

This team is designed for those in college or the early stages of their careers who desire to grow in faith, develop leadership skills, and experience cross-cultural ministry. Participants can expect to serve through practical projects, lead Vacation Bible School activities, share testimonies, participate in prayer walking, and engage in evangelism and outreach.

This trip is an opportunity for young adults to step into God’s mission, build relationships across cultures, and discover how God can use them wherever He sends them.
